For magnetic cell separation and magnetocapture, immunoassays, and binding of immunoglobulins.
BioMag suspensions are a series of products for cell sorting and magnetocapture, enzyme and other immunoassays. BioMag particles are irregularly shaped, with an average diameter of 1.6 µm, and consist of an iron oxide core with a silane coating. The surface of the particle is coated with amine or carboxyl groups, facilitating the covalent attachment of proteins, glycoproteins, secondary antibodies, and other ligands, with retention of biological activity. The particles' irregular shape provides a large surface area ensuring a high binding efficiency.
BioMag particles are superparamagnetic, that is, they respond to magnetic fields but do not retain magnetic properties when removed from the magnetic field. This fully reversible magnetization permits magnetic extraction without magnetically induced aggregation. Rapid and efficient removal of BioMag particles from suspension is achieved by the application of an external magnetic field (see figure "BioMag particles on a Single Tube Magnet").

Magnetic separation is performed in an easy and simple batch procedure. After washing the appropriate amount of BioMag particles to remove the preservative, BioMag particles are mixed and incubated with the target molecules of interest. The magnetically labeled fraction is recovered by applying the vessel to an external magnet (>20 megaoersted). The magnetic fraction can be washed and isolated for subsequent use in downstream procedures, or the supernatant is recovered for further use.
BioMag secondary antibody suspensions provide a well-established and economical technology for indirect negative depletion in cell separation applications. BioMag streptavidin suspensions are available in standard or nuclease-free format, highly suited for applications in proteomics, cell biology, and nucleic acid purification. BioMag Protein A and Protein G suspensions are highly suited for immunoprecipitation applications.
BioMag secondary antibody suspensions are standard BioMag particles coated with polyclonal secondary antibodies. They allow the rapid and efficient purification of target cells from a heterogeneous cell population using the negative depletion method of cell sorting. BioMag secondary antibody suspensions are also highly suited for use in enzyme immunoassays and radioassays that utilize the appropriate monoclonal antibody.
