对于古代基因组的研究已成为探索各种生物包括人类的起源、进化和迁徙的核心问题。同时，随着分子生物学的发展使得从远古样本中提取极其微量的DNA成为可能，“提取化石中的DNA”更被《科学》杂志评为2006年年度突破之一。毋庸置疑，古代基因组研究已成为当今生物科学研究和社会讨论的热点，是对古代基因组领域进行探讨的时刻了。
“2010国际古代基因组研讨会”将于2010年10月25-27日在中国深圳召开，此次会议由哥本哈根大学、深圳华大基因研究院共同主办。届时全球超过100位相关领域的顶尖专家学者将汇聚深圳，共同探讨科研热点问题，并对古代基因组研究的未来展开讨论。
作为会议的主办方，哥本哈根大学和深圳华大基因研究院共同完成了第一个古人类基因组的测序和分析，并于2010年3月11日作为封面文章刊登于《自然》杂志。这是有史以来第一次对古人类的基因组进行的研究，我们试图通过对古人类的基因信息的研究，揭示古代风俗文化并促进现代科技革新。同时，从冻土的样本成功获取基因信息也推动了科研技术的提升。尽管面对挑战，我们仍然坚信古代基因组研究将会进入一个全新的层次。
