International Conference on Viral Hepatitis: Past Accomplishments
and Unfulfilled Quests£¨ICVH2008£©

     The International Conference on Viral Hepatitis: Past Accomplishments and Unfulfilled Quests (ICVH2008) will be held from 15 to 17 April 2008 in Xiamen, China. This conference has been organized by the National Institute of Diagnostics and Vaccine Development in Infectious Diseases, Xiamen University, under the sponsorship of the Chinese Society of Microbiology and its Virology Study Group.
     The aim of ICVH2008 is to bring together hepatitis researchers to review recent significant findings, assess public health control measures, and consider the state of preparedness for emerging hepatitis agents. The conference has assembled a panel of plenary speakers each of whom has made pivotal contributions to the current understanding of viral hepatitis.The plenary speakers will be joined by a panel of invited experts in a round table discussion assessing the state of our preparedness for the future.
     ICVH2008 calls for research papers that report original techniques and approaches, new results and system developments in viral hepatitis fields. Participants are encouraged to submit their abstracts via Email to: hldu@xmu.edu.cn.Abstracts of interest will be published in the ICVH2008 proceedings and authors will be invited for presentation and/or discussion at the round table section.All scientists, physicians, blood bankers, public health providers and regulators, vaccine engineers, and managers who are interested in the topics of this conference are also welcome.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
  • Reviewing the major research findings regarding hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E.
  • Assessing the public health control measures for viral hepatitis.
  • Considering the state of preparedness for emerging hepatitis agents.
  • Discussion of future quests in hepatitis virus research.

          A large portion of the conference will be devoted to a round table discussion on some emerging events; including recent studies of hepatitis E, new applications of diagnostics in clinical and preventive settings, interested papers submitted by the participants and special problems and attention needed in the developing countries.Experts from academia, regulatory agencies, public health sectors and blood banks will be invited to join for an open discussion.Active audience participation will be encouraged. This novel approach will foster mentorship and encourage young scientists to actively seek the expertise and experience of established investigators and physicians.

    Accommodation
          Xiamen is a beautiful island, one of China¡¯s premier tourist destinations with white sand beaches, charming scenery, hot springs, and delicious local flavors. The climate is mild in April with an annual air temperature between [15¡æ-24¡æ]. Xiamen will have beautiful spring weather at the time of the conference. The conference will be held at the five star Xiamen International Seaside Hotel (http://www.seaside.cn), and rooms have been secured for all delegates. Accommodation is not included in the registration fee and should be booked at the time of registration.

    Post Meeting Tour

          A magnificent post conference tour has been planned for the participants to nearby Wuyi Mountain, recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site (http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/911). Wuyi is known for its special tea culture and beautiful natural views.

    Registration

          This symposium will provide magnificent surroundings with ample time to encourage participants to freely interact and exchange ideas between invited experienced investigators and the committed audience members interested in viral hepatitis research. The conference is limited to 200 registrants to allow maximum interaction between delegates. Abstracts can only be submitted by those registered for the meeting. There are a limited number of scholarships with waved registration fee for international participants; please apply directly with the organizer.
