摘要 inferior organic carbon utilization
摘要
inferior organic carbon utilization efficiency is a major barrier hindering the widespread application of biofloc technology (BFT) in intensive aquaculture systems. This issue is compounded by limited nitrogen removal, excessive biofloc accumulation, and the underutilization of chemical energy in organic waste. To overcome these challenges, this study proposes a novel approach: a biofloc technology combined with a microbial fuel cell (BFT-MFC) system. This system utilizes surplus carbon sources to generate bioelectricity while simultaneously enhancing water purification performance. Compared to traditional standalone BFT systems, the BFT-MFC system was thoroughly evaluated in terms of water quality stabilization, biofloc control, and electricity production. Results showed that the BFT-MFC system maintained stable dissolved oxygen, pH, and temperature levels throughout the operation period. The concentration of ammonia nitrogen remained low, with only a temporary spike of around 0.35 mg/L on day 20 before declining; total nitrogen levels fluctuated between 4.29 and 12.87 mg/L, significantly lower than those in the standalone BFT system or the control group (which reached 23.55 mg/L). Total organic carbon levels were also more closely controlled, ranging from 150 to 245 mg/L, versus the wide range of 129.6 to 360 mg/L in the standalone BFT system. Additionally, the BFT-MFC system exhibited less biofloc accumulation and maintained effective water quality regulation. The integrated MFC system achieved a maximum output voltage of 295.9 mV and a peak power density of 1716.8 mW m?2. Overall, the BFT-MFC system integrates废水 purification, biofloc management, and energy recovery, representing a promising and sustainable solution for industrial recirculating aquaculture.
